ServiceNow brings ChatGPT and Codex to every employee and wires its workflows into OpenAI
OpenAI and ServiceNow widened their January deal: a ServiceNow plugin for ChatGPT is live now, while security, voice and Codex features arrive between January and 2027.

OpenAI and ServiceNow have expanded their partnership, adding a ServiceNow integration for ChatGPT that is available today and a set of security, voice and coding features due between January and 2027. ServiceNow also plans to give every employee ChatGPT Work and Codex.
A ServiceNow plugin in ChatGPT today, the rest later
The part that exists now is the ServiceNow MCP plugin, listed in the OpenAI marketplace. According to OpenAI, it pulls business context and workflow actions into ChatGPT. In OpenAI’s example, someone on an IT team could look up comparable past incidents, judge how risky a planned change is and edit the matching ServiceNow record, all from inside the chat window. Each customer links ChatGPT to its own ServiceNow instance and decides which capabilities to switch on. ServiceNow’s Action Fabric enforces the business rules and permissions already in place, so what a person can do in ChatGPT mirrors how their organization has set up access.

ServiceNow is also previewing interactive experiences inside ChatGPT. In another OpenAI example, an on-call engineer sees the monitoring alerts tied to an incident, the latest changes and the services affected, then routes the problem to the right team and works toward a fix in the same conversation. OpenAI says enhanced plugin capabilities are expected by the end of 2026.
The other announced pieces are plans, not products:

- Application development: a Codex integration in ServiceNow’s AI Workflow Factory, expected in 2027. OpenAI models will also power ServiceNow’s Build Agent and Autonomous Engineer.
- Cybersecurity: a joint solution combining OpenAI’s security capabilities with ServiceNow’s asset, identity and business context. Early access is expected in January 2027 and general availability in the second quarter of 2027.
- Voice: a feature in ServiceNow’s Super Intelligence Control Tower that lets people describe an AI use case aloud, with follow-up questions to fill in missing assessment fields. It is expected in the first quarter of 2027.
Every ServiceNow employee gets the tools
Internally, ServiceNow plans to extend ChatGPT Work and Codex beyond its engineering organization to all employees. Engineers would use Codex to explore codebases, make changes and run tests, while other teams use ChatGPT Work day to day. ServiceNow also intends to use OpenAI capabilities in its own security work, and OpenAI says it uses ServiceNow workflows in its operations.
Both companies framed the deal in broad terms. Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president and co-founder, said:
AI becomes more useful when people can put it to work in the systems their businesses depend on.
ServiceNow chairman and chief executive Bill McDermott described his company as the “Super Intelligence Control Tower that orchestrates, secures, and governs AI across the enterprise.”
The third enterprise tie-up in a week
The announcement continues a pattern. OpenAI and ServiceNow first agreed to a broader collaboration on January 20, 2026. Coverage of that deal, including eWeek’s report, described a three-year agreement that brought GPT-5.2 and native voice into the ServiceNow platform, with financial terms undisclosed. Analysts at Futurum flagged the tension between customer demand for model choice and ServiceNow’s incentive to favor OpenAI; reports said customers keep access to other models such as Gemini and Nvidia Nemotron, with OpenAI the only model embedded natively.
The new announcement also fits OpenAI’s run of enterprise deals this week. On October 22 it announced that Uber is bringing ChatGPT Work to all employees, and on October 27 it announced that Oracle’s business apps are coming to ChatGPT. Our report on the Oracle side of that relationship noted that Oracle plans to train 1 million people on OpenAI technology for a new consulting practice. Seen together, OpenAI is pursuing two routes at once: putting ChatGPT and Codex inside large companies’ workforces, and placing its models and agents inside the enterprise software those companies already run.
The ChatGPT side connects to other recent work. We covered a similar approach for consumers when ChatGPT gained access to iCloud mail and calendars; the ServiceNow plugin applies the same idea to corporate systems of record, with permissions set by the customer.
What the announcement leaves open
Several details are missing. OpenAI does not give pricing, the plans or regions in which the ServiceNow plugin works, or the financial terms of the expanded deal. The value claims in the executives’ statements are the companies’ own and have not been independently verified. Most of the headline features, including security, voice and Codex in AI Workflow Factory, are described as planned, and the dates given are expectations rather than commitments. For ServiceNow customers, the practical step today is the marketplace plugin; everything else is a roadmap to watch through 2027.
