Oracle’s business apps head into ChatGPT, with a US-only Marketplace deal

OpenAI and Oracle plan to bring Oracle applications and data into ChatGPT, and Oracle will sell OpenAI access through its Marketplace to US customers.

OpenAI and Oracle announced an expanded partnership on October 27 to bring Oracle applications and data into ChatGPT through a product called Oracle AI Workspace. Oracle is also adding three offerings built on OpenAI models, and US customers can now buy OpenAI access through Oracle Marketplace.

Four Oracle offerings, one of them for sale now

Oracle AI Workspace is still in development, according to OpenAI. It is meant to let employees describe a task in ChatGPT, find the relevant information and finish approved business workflows without leaving the chat. OpenAI’s example is a new finance team member who investigates costs, traces purchasing decisions and works out what is left before month-end close, drawing on finance, procurement and planning applications. Access is to follow each organization’s own permissions and approvals, with unified sign-in. OpenAI gives no release date or pricing.

Three further products were announced alongside it:

  • Oracle AI Security Mesh uses OpenAI’s cyber models to hunt for weaknesses in a customer’s software and systems and help get them patched. Oracle runs the testing infrastructure and keeps the work inside the customer’s authorized scope.
  • Oracle AI SMB Bundle packages ChatGPT Business, Codex, Oracle applications and a recurring allowance of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure credits for small businesses that want to build products and run operations.
  • Oracle App Composer is meant for teams building apps with Codex and other AI tools, linking them to approved Oracle data and workflows. Oracle handles deployment on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with access controls built in.

The one piece with a clear availability line is Oracle Marketplace. Oracle customers in the US can buy the OpenAI API, Codex and ChatGPT Work there, through their existing procurement processes and eligible Oracle Universal Credits. Customers outside the US are not mentioned.

Oracle’s own usage figures, and what they leave out

According to OpenAI, Oracle reported roughly 130,000 people actively using ChatGPT and above 95,000 using Codex inside the company. It adds that Oracle’s recruiting team cut market research that used to take two to four days down to 15-20 minutes. Both are company-supplied figures; the announcement does not say how “active” is defined or how the recruiting comparison was measured.

The page also leaves out pricing for every new product, the bundle’s credit amounts, which Oracle applications Workspace will cover first, and how the cyber models in Security Mesh are gated. OpenAI’s models carry risk ratings of their own: as we reported, GPT-6.1 Terra reached the API and Codex rated Critical for cyber risk, which makes Oracle’s emphasis on managed testing and authorized scope notable.

Oracle bets its software becomes a place agents work

The strategy is visible in the wording: OpenAI describes an “agent-ready enterprise” in which people and AI agents work across business applications in one environment. For Oracle, that means its Fusion-style applications are reached through ChatGPT rather than only through its own screens. The same day, Oracle published a public Git registry of setup skills so that agents, including those from OpenAI, can plan and test configuration work in Fusion Cloud Applications, as we covered. That registry came with a $1 billion, four-year partner investment, and no pricing or start date.

The infrastructure side is moving in parallel. Nvidia and Oracle said Vera Rubin NVL72 systems are now generally available on OCI, with multi-gigawatt scaling planned and no timeline given, according to our report on that launch. Together, the pieces show Oracle selling OpenAI’s models, running the compute, and placing its applications inside the chat interface, which is a broader position than reseller.

The Marketplace route matters commercially. Spending Universal Credits that customers have already committed to lets a procurement team add OpenAI products without opening a new vendor contract. The announcement does not say whether Oracle or OpenAI sets the prices.

Who can use what today

Today, only the Marketplace purchase is described as available, and only to US customers. Oracle AI Workspace, Security Mesh, the SMB Bundle and App Composer are presented as designed or developing, so their scope may change. Small businesses and teams outside the US should treat the details as unconfirmed until Oracle publishes terms.
