Anthropic stock: can you buy it, who owns it and what is officially known about the IPO

Figures checked against official announcements and filings on October 17, 2026.

As of October 17, 2026, Anthropic shares cannot be bought on a public stock exchange. The company is private, has no ticker symbol, and has not announced an exchange. On June 1, 2026 it said it had confidentially submitted a draft registration statement (Form S-1) to the SEC for a possible initial public offering, but the share count and price have not been set.

Its last priced private round, announced May 28, 2026, valued the company at $965 billion post-money. Everything about listing dates and an IPO valuation beyond that comes from press reports, not from Anthropic.

Anthropic stock cannot be bought today, and there is no ticker yet

Anthropic, PBC is a privately held company. Its common stock is not listed on Nasdaq, the NYSE or any other exchange, so there is no live stock price. Any site that shows an “Anthropic stock price” or a ticker is showing an estimate, a derivative product or something unrelated.

The company’s June 1 announcement, made under Rule 135 of the Securities Act, says the filing lets it go public after the SEC finishes its review. It also states that the proposed offering depends on market conditions. The page names no exchange and no ticker symbol.

One caution on tickers: some secondary sites have published symbols for Anthropic. Anthropic has not announced one, and a draft S-1 stays confidential until it is filed publicly. Anthropic is also not the same as the unrelated shell company with a similar name that appears in SEC search results.

Who owns Anthropic: venture and institutional investors, strategic partners and a trust with board powers

Anthropic has not published a cap table, so the exact percentage owned by any investor is not officially known. What the company has disclosed is the list of investors in each funding round, and the way its governance is built.

Anthropic is a Delaware public benefit corporation. Its stated purpose is the “responsible development and maintenance of advanced AI for the long-term benefit of humanity.” According to Anthropic’s page on the Long-Term Benefit Trust, an independent five-member trust holds a special class of stock (Class T) that lets it elect and remove a portion of the board. That share phases in over time and with funding milestones, and the page says the trust will elect a board majority within four years. A separate director seat is elected by investors from Series C onward.

Founders and employees also hold equity, but the company has not published their stakes. Among the investors it has named are:

  • Venture and growth funds: Altimeter, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, Coatue, ICONIQ, Lightspeed, General Catalyst, Insight Partners and others.
  • Institutions and sovereign funds: Capital Group, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, BlackRock affiliates, GIC, Temasek, Qatar Investment Authority and MGX.
  • Corporate partners: Amazon, Microsoft and Nvidia, described below.

Valuation history: from $61.5 billion to $965 billion in 15 months

Figures checked on October 17, 2026. The table lists the rounds Anthropic announced itself, from March 2025 onward.

DateRoundAmountPost-money valuationLead investors
March 3, 2025Series E$3.5 billion$61.5 billionLightspeed Venture Partners
September 2, 2025Series F$13 billion$183 billionICONIQ; co-led by Fidelity and Lightspeed

Each row comes from the matching Anthropic announcement: the Series E, Series F, Series G and Series H pages on anthropic.com. The company said its run-rate revenue was $14 billion at the Series G, and above $47 billion at the Series H, reached earlier in May 2026. Run-rate revenue is the company’s own measure of annualized current revenue, not audited results.

The Series H announcement says the round includes $15 billion in previously committed hyperscaler investments, including $5 billion from Amazon. It also says Micron, Samsung and SK hynix joined as strategic infrastructure partners. The company said it will use the funds for safety and interpretability research, more compute capacity, and scaling products and partnerships.

Anthropic’s own pages do not give a valuation after May 28, so a figure “today” would be an estimate. The same is true for net worth: the post-money figure is the last official one. For how its numbers compare with its rival, see our guide to OpenAI stock, ownership and IPO requirements. According to CNBC and Crunchbase, the Series H put Anthropic ahead of OpenAI’s most recent reported valuation, though the outlets cite different OpenAI figures.

What Anthropic has confirmed about its IPO, and what is only reported

The confirmed facts are narrow:

  • On June 1, 2026, Anthropic announced it had confidentially submitted a draft S-1 to the SEC.
  • The number of shares and the price have not been set.
  • The offering depends on market conditions.
  • No exchange or ticker is named.

A confidential submission is not public. The SEC rules let a company file confidentially and then publish the registration statement at least 15 days before starting a roadshow. As of the most recent reports found on October 17, no public Anthropic S-1 had appeared on SEC EDGAR, according to FinanceFeeds and Yahoo Finance.

Timing, size and valuation are reports only:

  • According to IFR (issue dated October 17-23, 2026), Anthropic plans to file publicly on October 26 and to launch a roadshow on November 9, with pricing the following week. IFR also reports a target of up to $100 billion raised at a $2 trillion valuation, with Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs as joint bookrunners.
  • According to FinanceFeeds, citing Bloomberg, formal marketing could start the week of November 9, with trading beginning before November 26. The same article says Anthropic was reported to be meeting prospective investors on October 14.
  • Prediction-market odds and exchange choices, such as Nasdaq, appear on aggregator sites but are not confirmed by the company.

Anthropic has not confirmed any of these dates, the raise size or the $2 trillion figure. They may change or not happen. Some articles from June also claimed a public S-1 and a specific ticker; these conflict with Anthropic’s own announcement and should not be relied on.

Listed companies with an official stake or partnership

Several public companies have disclosed money or commitments tied to Anthropic. Only what the companies themselves published is listed here.

  • Amazon: In its April 20, 2026 announcement, Anthropic said Amazon is investing $5 billion now, with up to $20 billion more in the future, on top of the $8 billion Amazon invested previously. Anthropic also committed more than $100 billion over ten years to AWS technologies, and called AWS its primary training and cloud provider for mission-critical workloads.
  • Microsoft and Nvidia: On November 18, 2025, Anthropic announced investments of up to $5 billion from Microsoft and up to $10 billion from Nvidia, alongside a $30 billion commitment to buy Azure compute capacity. Part of these earlier investments is included in the Series G round, per the Series G page.
  • Google and Broadcom: The April 6, 2026 announcement is a compute agreement for multiple gigawatts of TPU capacity starting in 2027. That page does not describe an equity stake. The Crunchbase report on the Series H counts $10 billion from Google within the round, but this was not stated on the Anthropic pages read for this article.
  • Micron, Samsung and SK hynix: Named in the Series H announcement as strategic infrastructure partners.

A partnership or investment does not make a shareholder’s stake equal to the sums above in percentage terms, since the company has not published ownership percentages. For more on the money flowing into the sector, see why AI is still making serious money despite bubble worries.

What to watch next: a public S-1, an exchange and the pricing terms

The next hard facts will come from filings, not press reports. The items that would settle the open questions are:

  • A public S-1 on EDGAR. It would show audited financial statements, risk factors, the share classes and the principal shareholders, which would answer the ownership questions above.
  • An exchange and ticker. These appear in the registration statement or in a company announcement.
  • A price range and share count. They are normally set in an amended filing before the roadshow, and the final price is set when the deal is priced.
  • Governance terms. How the Long-Term Benefit Trust’s Class T stock works after listing will be described in the prospectus.

For the product side of the business, Anthropic’s own research on how its customers use Claude is covered in our piece on the Anthropic employment report.

Common questions

What is the Anthropic stock symbol or ticker?

There is none. Anthropic has not announced a ticker or an exchange, and its shares are not publicly traded. A symbol will be known only when the company files publicly or announces its listing.

When is the Anthropic IPO date?

Anthropic has not announced a date. It has only said it confidentially submitted a draft S-1 on June 1, 2026. According to IFR, a public filing is planned for October 26 and a roadshow for November 9, but the company has not confirmed this.

What is Anthropic’s valuation?

The last official figure is $965 billion post-money, from the Series H announced May 28, 2026. The earlier rounds were $380 billion (February 2026), $183 billion (September 2025) and $61.5 billion (March 2025). The $2 trillion IPO figure is a report by IFR, not a company number.

Who owns Anthropic?

Anthropic is owned by its founders, employees and a long list of investors, including venture funds, asset managers, sovereign funds and corporate partners such as Amazon, Microsoft and Nvidia. The company has not published exact percentages. A trust, the Long-Term Benefit Trust, holds special stock that gives it the power to elect part of the board.
